Thiru Avinankudi Temple

Foothill temple marking the base of Palani's Murugan shrine, linked to legends of Surya and Lakshmi.

Set at the base of Palani hill, Thiru Avinankudi Temple takes its name from the legend that the Sun god, Goddess Lakshmi and other deities once worshipped Murugan here. Two holy tanks, Vaiyapuri and Saravana Poigai, sit within the grounds, and the temple served as Palani's original name before the hill shrine gained prominence. It offers a quieter counterpoint to the crowds at the main temple above.
