Periyanayaki Amman Temple

Fourteenth century temple in Devikapuram commissioned by a Vijayanagara emperor, dedicated to Goddess Periyanayaki.

The Periyanayaki Amman Temple, often called the Town Temple, stands at the centre of Palani's Devikapuram neighbourhood. Local tradition credits its construction to a Vijayanagara emperor in the fourteenth century, and the shrine places Goddess Periyanayaki alongside Kailasanathar with Murugan positioned between them. Its central location makes it an easy addition to a temple circuit through the town itself.
