Pandav Caves are a set of five ancient rock cut shelters carved into a low sandstone hill within Pachmarhi town, giving the hill station its name from the Hindi words for five and caves. Local legend holds that the five Pandava brothers took refuge here during their exile, though historians believe the caves were originally used by Buddhist monks and dedicated to the deity Kubera. The carvings are simple, and one chamber carries a distinct echo.
