Jahangir Mahal

A 17th century palace built to honour a single royal visit, famed for its domes and lattice courtyards.

Jahangir Mahal was commissioned by Bir Singh Deo to commemorate a one night visit from Mughal emperor Jahangir, and the effort shows in every carved jharokha and chhatri. Twin rows of domes crown the structure, and narrow stairways lead to a rooftop offering wide views over Orchha town and the Betwa river. It stands as the most photographed building in the fort complex and a textbook example of Mughal-Rajput architectural fusion.
