St. Stephen's Church, consecrated in 1829, is the oldest church in the Nilgiris district and one of the oldest Anglican churches in South India. Built under the patronage of the Madras Government, its massive teak roof beams were reportedly salvaged from Tipu Sultan's palace at Srirangapatna after the fall of Seringapatam in 1799.
The church features colonial Gothic architecture, stained glass windows, a pipe organ, and a churchyard with graves dating to the early 19th century. It remains an active place of worship under the Church of South India. Visitors are welcome; dress modestly and avoid Sunday service hours.
