Ooty Lake

An artificial lake built in 1825 by John Sullivan, the founder of Ooty, stretching 2.5 km through the heart of town with pedal boating, rowing, and a scenic lakeside promenade.

Ooty Lake was constructed in 1825 by John Sullivan, the Collector of Coimbatore who founded Ooty as a hill station. Stretching 2.5 km through the town centre, it is managed by Tamil Nadu Tourism and offers pedal boats, rowboats, and motor boats for hire.

The lakeside promenade and gardens are popular for evening walks, with the Nilgiri Mountain Railway passing nearby adding to the setting. The area is busiest during the May Summer Festival. Best visited in the morning or late afternoon to avoid weekend crowds.
