Elk Hill Murugan Temple

A revered hilltop temple dedicated to Lord Murugan, featuring a striking 40-foot statue modelled on the Batu Caves idol in Malaysia, with panoramic views of Ooty and the Nilgiri Hills.

The Elk Hill Murugan Temple, formally known as Arulmigu Jalakanteshwarar Baladhandayuthapani Swami Temple, is the most prominent temple in Ooty. Perched atop Elk Hill at around 2,500 metres, it is dedicated to Lord Murugan and features a 40-foot standing statue closely resembling the famous Murugan idol at Batu Caves, Malaysia.

The complex also has shrines to Lord Ganesha, Lord Shiva, Goddess Shakti, and the Navagrahas. The key festival is Thaipoosam Thiruvizha, celebrated in January or February, drawing large pilgrim crowds. Open daily 8 AM to 5 PM, no entry fee.
