Doddabetta Peak

The highest peak in the Nilgiri Hills at 2,637 metres, offering panoramic views of Ooty, the Coimbatore plains, and the Mysuru plateau from its hilltop Telescope House.

Doddabetta, meaning "Big Mountain" in the Badaga language, stands at 2,637 metres (8,652 feet) - the highest point in the Nilgiri Hills and the fourth highest peak in South India. It sits at the junction of the Eastern and Western Ghats, surrounded by reserved shola forest thick with rhododendrons and high-altitude herbs.

At the summit, the TTDC-run Telescope House offers sweeping 360-degree views of Ooty town, Bandipur forests, and on clear days, the Mysuru plateau. Accessible by road or a 3 km trek. Entry fee around Rs. 10 per person. Visit before 8 AM for clear skies - avoid July to September when fog obscures the views.
