Siddhanath Temple on the northern bank of Mandhata Island is the finest example of ancient temple architecture in Omkareshwar. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, the Bhumija-style structure is supported on a massive platform whose sides are carved with elephants in various postures. The mandapa rests on 76 decorated pillars with Bhuta bracket capitals, and the outer walls carry an exceptional series of 64 Yogini figures depicted in elaborate ornamentation. The central shrine originally had entrances on all four sides with grand porches, and the quality of the remaining sculptures rivals those of Khajuraho.
