24 Avatars Temple Complex

A cluster of Hindu and Jain temples near the ghat renowned for their diverse medieval architecture.

24 Avatars is a cluster of Hindu and Jain temples near the main ghat of Omkareshwar, celebrated for the variety and quality of their medieval stone architecture. Many of the original structures were damaged during Mahmud Ghazni's 11th-century invasions but significant carved elements survive. Each of the 24 shrines reflects a distinct regional architectural idiom, making the group a compressed survey of medieval Indian temple styles. The complex is typically visited before or after the Jyotirlinga darshan.
