Sri Talpagiri Ranganathaswamy Temple

Sri Talpagiri Ranganathaswamy Temple stands on the banks of the Penna River, its nearly hundred-foot Gali Gopuram visible from across the city. The temple traces its origins to the seventh or eighth century under the Pallavas, with major additions made later by the Cholas and Vijayanagara rulers. Inside, Lord Ranganatha reclines on the serpent Adisesha, facing west toward the river rather than the usual east. The temple's annual Brahmotsavam festival remains one of Nellore's biggest celebrations.
