Bara Shaheed Dargah

A shrine to twelve martyrs on Nellore's tank bund, known for its Muharram roti-exchange festival.

Bara Shaheed Dargah stands on the bank of Nellore's old water tank, built in memory of twelve martyrs said to have fallen in a battle over a thousand years ago. The shrine draws visitors from across the region and beyond, especially during Rottela Panduga, or the Roti Festival, held annually in the month of Muharram. Pilgrims who once made wishes here return to exchange rotis with fellow devotees whose prayers were also answered.
