Rising sharply above the plains near Nashik, Ramshej Fort is a historically significant Maratha stronghold that famously resisted a prolonged Mughal siege in the late 17th century. The trek to the summit is steep and challenging, passing through scrub forest and exposed ridgelines before opening up to spectacular views of the Nashik valley below. A rewarding climb for history enthusiasts and serious trekkers, Ramshej is one of the Sahyadri's most storied forts.
