Ramkund Panchwati

A sacred Godavari bathing ghat in Nashik where Rama bathed during his exile and where the Nashik Kumbh Mela takes place every 12 years.

Ramkund in Nashik's Panchavati area is a sacred bathing ghat on the Godavari River, believed to be the spot where Lord Rama bathed during his 14-year exile. The kund (tank) is considered one of the holiest spots in Nashik — it is here that the famous Kumbh Mela at Nashik (held every 12 years) takes place, with lakhs of pilgrims taking a ritual dip in the Godavari. The ghat is surrounded by small temples and is the starting point of the Panchavati pilgrimage circuit. The flowing Godavari, the temple bells, and the constant murmur of prayers create an intensely devotional atmosphere.
