Umred Pauni Karhandla Wildlife Sanctuary lies in Nagpur and Bhandara districts of Maharashtra, bounded by the Wainganga river and the Gosikhurd reservoir. Its dry deciduous forest and grassland form a corridor between Tadoba and other central Indian reserves and have become well known for regular tiger sightings, along with leopards, sloth bears, wild dogs, nilgai and many birds.
The sanctuary is a short drive from Nagpur, so it is often visited as a day trip. Jeep safaris are run by the Maharashtra Forest Department; check the current booking process, gates and timings before you travel.
- How to Reach: The sanctuary gates are roughly 60 to 70 km south east of Nagpur by road via Umred.
