Khimsar Fort was built in 1523 by Rao Karamsji, the eighth son of Rao Jodha of Jodhpur. It lies on the eastern edge of the Thar Desert, about halfway between Nagaur and Jodhpur, and Aurangzeb is said to have stayed here when he was in Nagaur. Today it is a heritage hotel, with rooms in the old fort and a newer wing, gardens and a pool. A dune camp run with the hotel lies nearby for desert stays. Access inside is for guests and diners, so it suits an overnight stop between Nagaur and Jodhpur.
