Changu Narayan is a two tiered pagoda temple to Vishnu on a ridge above Bhaktapur, and is considered the oldest temple site in the Kathmandu Valley, with an inscribed pillar from the 5th century. The present temple was rebuilt after a fire around 1700. Its struts, doorways and the stone sculptures around the courtyard, including Vishnu as Narasimha and Vishnu Vikranta, are some of the finest Licchavi and Malla period work in Nepal. It is part of the Kathmandu Valley UNESCO World Heritage Site. Non Hindus can walk around the courtyard but not enter the inner shrine.
