Jaganmohan Palace

Art gallery in a former royal palace.

Built in 1861 as a royal auditorium for the Wodeyar dynasty, Jaganmohan Palace is a striking three-storeyed structure that now houses the Jayachamarajendra Art Gallery. Its halls display an impressive collection of paintings, musical instruments, ivory carvings, and royal artefacts accumulated over generations. Among the highlights is a rare painting by Raja Ravi Varma. The palace stands as a quiet but rich counterpart to the grandeur of Mysore Palace nearby.
