Jwala Devi Temple is one of the most revered temples near Mussoorie, perched atop Benog Hill at an altitude of 2,240 metres, about 9 km west of the town centre. Dedicated to Goddess Jwala Devi - a form of Maa Durga - the temple houses an ancient stone idol of the goddess in a small white sanctum surrounded by dense forest.
Reaching the temple requires a 2 km trek through green forest from the road head, making the visit both a spiritual and nature experience. From the temple, the views extend over the Shivalik mountain range, the Yamuna River valley, and the Doon Valley far below. Thousands of devotees visit year-round, with the largest turnout during Navratri.
Temple timings: 5 AM to 12 PM and 4 PM to 8 PM. No entry fee. The trek is manageable for most visitors and takes about 45 minutes.
