Kolukkumalai Tea Estate

Kolukkumalai is widely regarded as the highest tea estate in the world, sitting above 2,400 metres on the Munnar-Tamil Nadu border. Reaching it requires a bumpy jeep ride up rough mountain tracks, which is part of the adventure. The century-old factory here still uses original wooden machinery to produce orthodox tea. The views from the top, stretching across both Kerala and Tamil Nadu, are extraordinary. It is one of the most rewarding and offbeat half-day trips from Munnar.
