Shree Shitaladevi and Shree Shantadurga Temples, Mahim

Temple complex of Shitaladevi, the village deity of Mahim, and Shantadurga, managed by the G.S.B. Temple Trust on Lady Jamshedji Road.

The Shitaladevi Temple Complex on Lady Jamshedji Road in Mahim West holds the temple of Shree Shitaladevi, regarded as the gram daivat (village deity) of Mahim, and the temple of Shree Shantadurga, along with smaller shrines that include Shiva temples and a Datta Mandir. Shitaladevi is also the family deity of Koli families of the area. The complex is managed by the G.S.B. Temple Trust, founded in 1879 to look after the temples of the Goud Saraswat Brahmin community of Mumbai.

The temple is listed among the city's heritage precincts. It has Konkan style architecture, a domed roof and a grey basalt deepstambh.

Around 1960 the Trust began a Maghi Navratri utsav in the Shitaladevi temple premises, with an idol installed for the festival and immersed at its end. As the festival grew, a permanent temple was built for Shree Shantadurga, and a panchdhatu idol of the goddess was installed on 15 December 1995.

Navratri is celebrated twice a year, in Ashwin and in Magh. The Shantadurga temple marks five Maha Panchami days with special pooja and aarti, and on Maghi Panchami a palkhi procession goes from the temple to Shivaji Park. Lakshmi Pujan, Mahashivratri, Guru Purnima and Datta Jayanti are also observed.
