Sassoon Docks

One of Mumbai's oldest docks and a working fish market in Colaba, now also known for its street art festival.

Built in 1875, Sassoon Docks in Colaba is one of Mumbai's oldest docks and one of the few still open to the public. Early mornings here show the city's fishing trade in full swing, with boats unloading catch and traders bargaining over fresh fish like surmai and pomfret. In recent years, the docks have also hosted a popular art festival that brought murals and installations to the working dockside, giving the area a newer creative identity alongside its old trade. It sits close to Colaba Causeway and the Gateway of India, making it easy to combine with a South Mumbai walk, best visited early morning for the real market experience.
