Nakki Lake sits at the centre of Mount Abu at 1,200 metres elevation and is regarded as the first man-made lake in India, dug according to legend by gods using their nails (nakh). The lake stretches a quarter of a mile wide and is encircled by the Aravalli hills, with rocky formations jutting from the banks. Boating is the main activity, with paddle and rowing boats available for hire. The lakeside promenade fills at dusk with locals and visitors, and the surrounding market area makes it the social hub of the hill station.
