Mount Abu Wildlife Sanctuary covers 288 square kilometres of the Aravalli hills surrounding the town, rising from 300 metres to the 1,722-metre Guru Shikhar summit. It shelters leopards, sloth bears, striped hyenas, Indian civets, and over 250 bird species including crested serpent eagles and grey junglefowl. Jeep safaris run from designated forest checkpoints and Trevor's Tank lies within the sanctuary's boundaries. The forest turns unusually lush during and after the monsoon, a rare sight in Rajasthan's desert landscape. The sanctuary also preserves a diverse range of medicinal plants and orchids.
