Guru Shikhar is the highest point in the Aravalli Range at 1,722 metres, about 15 km from Mount Abu. Named after the sage Dattatreya who is believed to have meditated here, the summit has a cave shrine dedicated to him alongside the Physical Research Laboratory's Mount Abu Observatory used for infrared astronomy. A historic bell inscribed 1411 AD crowns the peak, rung by trekkers to mark their ascent. The panoramic views across the Aravalli hills and the plains of Rajasthan and Gujarat are among the finest in Rajasthan.
