Gaumukh Temple sits in forest 5 km from Mount Abu town, reached by a descent of about 700 steps. The temple complex is dedicated to the sage Vashishtha, who is believed to have performed the yajna here that gave birth to the Agnivanshi Rajput clans. Its defining feature is a natural marble spout shaped like a cow's mouth from which spring water flows continuously over a Nandi idol. Idols of Lord Rama, Lord Krishna, and the sage Vashishtha are enshrined within. The dense forest setting gives the complex an atmospheric, secluded feel.
