Achalgarh Fort

Ruined 15th-century fort rebuilt by Maharana Kumbha enclosing Jain temples and Mandakini Lake in the Aravalli hills.

Achalgarh Fort stands 11 km north of Mount Abu town, originally built by the Paramara dynasty and substantially rebuilt by Maharana Kumbha of Mewar in 1452 CE. The fort is largely in ruins today but its two imposing granite gateways, Hanumanpol and Champapol, remain striking. Within the walls are Jain temples including the 1513 CE Kantinath Temple, the Dashavatar Temple with its sculpted canopy facade, and the scenic Mandakini Lake. The elevated position commands fine views across the Aravalli ridgeline, and the drive up passes dense forest.
