Shangnyu Village

Shangnyu Village is one of the most culturally significant Konyak settlements in Mon district, ruled by a hereditary chief called the Angh. The village centers around a striking wooden monument, eight feet high and twelve feet wide, believed by locals to have been carved by angels. Memorial stones stand in front of the Angh's palace, itself said to be more than 500 years old. Shangnyu's long standing trade ties with the Ahom kings of Assam add historical depth, making it a strong introduction to Konyak heritage and craftsmanship.
