Ungma Village stands about four kilometers from Mokokchung town as the oldest and largest settlement of the Ao Naga tribe. Inside the morung, the traditional male dormitory, visitors find the lokcham, an enormous log drum carved from a single tree trunk and still central to village life. The Baptist church here, founded in 1876 by missionary Dr E W Clark, marks the arrival of Christianity in the Naga Hills. Walking through Ungma reveals traditional wooden houses and warm hospitality.
