Mirzapur is one of the two anchors of the Mirzapur-Bhadohi carpet belt, the largest hand-knotted carpet weaving cluster in the world, engaging over 3.2 million artisans. Carpet weaving here dates to the 16th century when Persian weavers settled in the region under Mughal Emperor Akbar's patronage.
