Yoga Peeth (Birthplace of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu)

Yoga Peeth in Mayapur is the birthplace of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu (1486–1534), the great saint and philosopher who founded the Gaudiya Vaishnava tradition and propagated the chanting of the Hare Krishna mantra. The site marks the exact spot where Chaitanya was born during a lunar eclipse on the full moon of the Phalguna month. A temple now marks the birthplace, and the complex includes shrines and a museum dedicated to his life.
