Krishna Janmbhoomi

Revered as the birthplace of Lord Krishna, this sacred temple complex marks the prison cell (garbha-griha) where he was born.

Krishna Janmabhoomi Temple in Mathura marks the exact spot traditionally believed to be the prison cell where Lord Krishna was born to Devaki and Vasudeva, while they were imprisoned by the tyrant Kansa. The complex includes the main Keshav Dev Temple, the Garbha Griha shrine marking the birth chamber, and the adjacent Bhagavata Bhavan. The site has immense spiritual significance for Vaishnavas and attracts millions of pilgrims annually. During Janmashtami, the complex becomes the epicentre of celebrations in Mathura, with elaborate midnight rituals, kirtan, and illuminations drawing enormous crowds.
