Sultan Battery

18th century watchtower built by Tipu Sultan overlooking the Gurpur River, used to guard against naval invasions.

Sultan Battery was built by Tipu Sultan in the 18th century as a low, squat watchtower overlooking the Gurpur River, mounted with guns to defend against naval attacks. A short climb of around thirty steps leads to the top, where little remains beyond the structure itself and river views. Though modest in scale, it offers a tangible link to Mangalore's turbulent 18th century history.
