Manas National Park in Assam sits at the foot of the Bhutan hills along the Manas river and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, a tiger reserve and an elephant reserve. Grassland and forest here shelter tigers, elephants, wild water buffalo, golden langurs and rare species such as the pygmy hog and Bengal florican.
Safari essentials: the park reopened on 2 October 2026 for the 2026 to 2027 season. Jeep safaris run from several ranges, each with a weekly closure: Bansbari on Tuesdays, Kuklung on Wednesdays, Bhuyanpara on Thursdays and Panbari on Fridays. Bansbari, near Barpeta Road, is the usual entry for first visits. Permits are issued by the park authorities at the range offices.
