Natun Kamalabari Satra is a Vaishnavite monastery on Majuli and one of the branches of the historic Kamalabari Satra, whose lineage goes back to Badula Padma Ata, a disciple of Madhavdev. Like the other Kamalabari satras, it keeps up the island's tradition of devotional music, dance and drama, and the day here follows the rhythm of prayer, with morning nam prasang sung by the resident bhakats. Assam Tourism lists it among the satras worth visiting on Majuli. During the Raas Mahotsav in November, the Kamalabari area is one of the busiest parts of the island, with performances staged at the satras nearby. Visitors are welcome, but this is a working monastery: dress modestly, remove footwear where asked and ask before taking photographs.

  • How to Reach: Natun Kamalabari Satra is in the Kamalabari area of Majuli, a short drive from Kamalabari Ghat, where ferries arrive from Nimati Ghat near Jorhat. Local taxis and shared vehicles run from the ghat and from Garamur.
