Kamalabari Ghat is the main ferry landing on the southern shore of Majuli, where boats from Nimati Ghat near Jorhat arrive after crossing the Brahmaputra. For most travellers this is the first view of the island, with ferries carrying passengers, motorbikes, cars and goods across the wide river. The Majuli district administration says the crossing takes about an hour and that ferries run between Nimati Ghat and Kamalabari Ghat or Afalamukh Ghat from 7.30 am to 3.30 pm, every half hour during the festival season. Tickets for passengers and vehicles can be booked in advance through Assam Inland Water Transport or the online ferry booking service on the Sewa Setu portal. The ghat is especially busy during the Raas Mahotsav in November, and the river views at sunset are worth waiting for. Services can change with weather and water levels, so check timings before you travel.
