Founded in 1584 by Banamalideva, a nephew of Sankardeva, Dakhinpat Satra holds a central place among Majuli's monastic institutions and is especially known for hosting one of the island's grandest Raas Leela celebrations. The satra's gateway and interior surfaces carry detailed carvings and paintings depicting religious motifs, floral patterns, and animal figures. It also functions as a repository of dance forms attributed to Sankardeva himself, including several styles now rarely performed elsewhere. Thousands of devotees and cultural visitors converge here each year during the Raas festival in November.
