Venna Lake is the most visited attraction in Mahabaleshwar, a 28-acre man-made lake built in 1842 by Shri Appasaheb Maharaj of Satara, set in a bowl of forested hills near the town centre. Paddle boats, rowboats and speed boats ply the calm waters throughout the day, and a lakeside promenade offers horse riding, local snacks and views of the surrounding Sahyadri slopes. The lake is particularly atmospheric on misty winter mornings when boats emerge from fog, and remains lively with families year-round.
