Ambedkar Memorial Park in Lucknow is a grand public park built as a tribute to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution and champion of Dalit rights. Spread over 107 acres in Gomti Nagar, the park features massive sandstone structures, elephants carved in stone lining the pathways, and a large statue of Dr. Ambedkar at its centre. The architectural style is inspired by Buddhist and Ambedkarite symbols. Built by the BSP government under Mayawati, the park also celebrates other icons of the Dalit movement including Kanshi Ram. The park is one of the most striking examples of political architecture in modern India.
