Shankar Ganesh Temple

Partially submerged crater-lake temple noted for its rare rectangular Shiva statue.

Shankar Ganesh Temple stands partly submerged along the edge of Lonar's crater lake, its lower sections lost to the rising and falling water levels over the centuries. The temple is chiefly noted for a rectangular Shiva statue inside, an uncommon form rarely seen in temples elsewhere in the region. Its half-sunken state adds a striking visual to the crater's shoreline and makes it one of the more photographed lesser temples among Lonar's scattered ruins.
