Keibul Lamjao National Park

The world''s only floating national park, built on phumdis and home to the endangered Sangai dancing deer.

Keibul Lamjao National Park spreads across roughly 40 square kilometres of floating phumdi on the southeastern edge of Loktak Lake, making it the only floating national park on earth. It shelters the endangered Sangai, Manipur's brow-antlered dancing deer, along with hog deer, otters, and migratory waterfowl that arrive between November and April. Watchtowers maintained by the forest department let visitors scan the marsh for wildlife, and boat safaris through the channels bring travelers closer to this unusual, spongy ecosystem.
