The Green Lake Trek starts from Lachen and climbs through Zemu glacier country to Green Lake, at roughly 4,935 meters directly beneath Kanchenjunga, India's highest peak. The route is not a marked commercial trail, so trekkers must travel with a registered operator and permit, carrying full camping gear since no lodges exist along the way. Best attempted from April to June or September to November, it ranks among Sikkim's most demanding treks and needs on ground verification before promotion to casual travelers.
