Chopta Valley

Lying along the route between Lachen and Gurudongmar Lake, Chopta Valley opens into a flat stretch of grassland threaded by a small river, ringed by snow covered peaks above 4,000 meters. Rhododendrons and alpine flowers color the slopes in spring, while the barren winter landscape has its own stark appeal. Most travelers pass through on a short detour during the Gurudongmar excursion, though the valley rewards a longer stop with quiet views rarely crowded even during peak season.
