India Bridge carries the Khavda to Vighakot road over the Great Rann in northern Kutch, about 39 km from the international border according to the BSF. For years it was the only link between the border areas and inland Kutch, and the last point civilians could reach. The BSF controlled access here until 2021, when it handed security of the bridge to the Gujarat Police; the BSF still runs checkpoints further north.
Many travellers combine India Bridge with Kalo Dungar and the craft villages around Khavda. Access rules can change, so ask about current permits at the Bhirandiyara checkpost or in Khavda before you go, carry original photo ID, and do not photograph security posts or personnel.
- How to Reach: Drive north from Bhuj to Khavda, about 70 km, then continue north on the Vighakot road. Hire a taxi from Bhuj; there is no regular public transport to the bridge.
