Sannihit Sarovar in the heart of Kurukshetra is believed to be the underground meeting point of seven sacred tributaries of the Saraswati River. The 11th-century scholar Al-Beruni described this vast tank as resembling a miniature sea. Its banks are lined with temples and ghats, and pilgrims believe bathing here on a Somvati Amavasya or solar eclipse is equal to the merit of ten Ashwamedha yagyas. The aarti at sunset on the ghats, with lamps reflected in the still water, is one of the most atmospheric experiences in Kurukshetra.
