Jyotisar, 5 km from Kurukshetra town, is the most venerated tirtha of the entire Kurukshetra circuit, the spot where Lord Krishna is believed to have revealed the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita to a reluctant Arjuna on the eve of the Mahabharata battle. An ancient banyan tree revered as a living witness to that moment stands at the centre of the site, and a marble chariot depicting Krishna and Arjuna was installed in 1967 by the Shankaracharya of Kanchi. A nightly light-and-sound show dramatising the Gita Upadesha is held by Haryana Tourism and attracts large evening crowds.
