Harsh Ka Tila is an archaeological mound on the outskirts of Thanesar associated with the 7th-century emperor Harshavardhana, who made Thanesar his capital and from here presided over a vast empire spanning northern India. Excavations by the ASI have recovered artefacts including coins, seals, terracotta objects and pottery spanning occupations from the Harappan period through the Gupta era to the medieval period. The mound, first surveyed by Alexander Cunningham, is a key reference point for the region's deep layered history.
