Bhishma Kund

A sacred kund at Narkatari where Arjuna shot an arrow to bring water for the dying Bhishma, also called Ban Ganga.

Bhishma Kund at Narkatari on the route to Jyotisar marks the spot where, according to the Mahabharata, the great patriarch Bhishma lay on his bed of arrows and felt thirst. The Kauravas offered him ordinary water but he refused; Arjuna then invoked Parjanyastra and struck the earth with an arrow, causing a jet of sacred Ganga water to spring up for his fallen foe. The kund formed at that spot is revered and pilgrims bathe here before proceeding to Jyotisar. The site is also known as Ban Ganga.
