Bhadrakali Temple

A Shakti Peetha where the ankle of Goddess Sati fell, and where the Pandavas performed rituals before the Mahabharata battle.

Bhadrakali Temple is one of Haryana's most significant Shakti Peethas, the site where the right ankle of Goddess Sati is believed to have fallen when Lord Vishnu dismembered her body with the Sudarshana Chakra. The resident goddess is Bhadrakali and the associated Bhairava is Sthanu. The temple has a deep Mahabharata association: the Pandavas offered prayers here before the final battle and returned to offer horses after their victory. Devotees still offer terracotta or metal horses to the goddess in fulfilment of wishes, a tradition that continues to this day. Navratri celebrations here draw large crowds.
