Kumbhalgarh Fort was built in the 15th century by Rana Kumbha of Mewar and is one of the Hill Forts of Rajasthan on the UNESCO World Heritage list. Its perimeter wall runs for about 36 km through the Aravalli hills and is often cited as the second longest continuous wall in the world after the Great Wall of China. The ramparts enclose around 360 temples, palaces including the Badal Mahal, and reservoirs, and the fort is known as the birthplace of Maharana Pratap. Most visitors spend half a day walking the walls, gates, and palace zone, and an evening sound-and-light show narrates the fort's history. Arrive early for cooler climbs and clearer Aravalli views.
